“We’ll be doing an alternating proprietorship with Zoiglhaus Brewing. We’ve been brewing for a year and a half now, but we’ve wanted to open a brick-and-mortar location for some time,” co-founder of Oak Union Brewing, Trevor Lauman, told What Now Portland.
“The licensing agreement with Zoiglhaus will allow us to open a “second” location somewhere in the Portland Metro area. We’ll brew everything at Zoiglhaus and then open a satellite taproom.”
According to Oak Union Brewing’s website, “Oak Union is a direct result of Trevor’s vision and drive to create amazing beer that pays homage to what helps create it. As new processes, energy, and technical innovations progress, Trevor will lead the charge to help adopt strategies to make great beer for the sake of a stable planet.”
When it comes to Zoiglhaus Brewing, according to the company website, “In the spirit of Zoigl, we welcome you to the first Zoiglhaus this side of Bavaria. Zoigl brewing began in the Middle Ages in several small towns in what we now know as Germany.”
“It’s a wonderful historical practice where citizens share a communal brewhouse, then take turns serving their brew to their neighbors from the comfort of their own homes. You can still experience the Zoigl tradition in five tiny towns in Bavaria. And now, right here in Portland, we’re pleased to share the time-honored custom of Zoigl with you!”
