Once Pretty Ugly opens, the planned days of operations will be every day from 12 PM to 1 AM, with no seasonal variation. Pretty Ugly was filed under 1317 Hoyt LLC, with Vijaykumar Lingeswaran behind the concept, according to the permit filing.
Pretty Ugly’s address was once home to Mio Sushi. Map Quest states that this Mio Sushi location is permanently closed.
According to an article from the Portland Eater, Vijay is also behind the concepts of Silk Road and Lulu. “In the Pearl District, a new cocktail bar from Lulu owner Vijay Kumar takes its inspiration from the routes, using ingredients like chrysanthemum, lemongrass, and oolong tea for drinks while diners enjoy Chinese American standards.”
“Kumar and Foong designed the food and drink menus to be versatile, in order to transition from “an inviting dinner spot to a cocktail lounge at night.” The Silk Road team had lamented the dwindling of Portland’s late night scene and were inspired to create a place for late-night Chinese food. Like its sister bar Lulu, Silk Road will have DJs on the weekends, but patrons should expect a more lounge-y, low key vibe here.”
