A representative of Dovetail Cellars did not immediately respond to What Now Portland’s request for comment.

While an official opening date and the specifics of Dovetail Cellars have yet to be confirmed, the permit filing lists Dovetail as a domestic winery, with farmer-market wine sales.

Upon further research, Dovetail is listed at the same address as Burnt Bridge Cellars on its permit. Ben Stuart is the winemaker of Burnt Bridge, as well as one of the permit filers for Dovetail Cellars.

According to Burnt Bridge’s recent Instagram post, after 13 years, they will be closing their doors. They do, however, announce exciting upcoming plans for the building, stating that Ben will be staying on to continue the winemaking process.

The path to winemaking was paved with a love for brewing, as Ben had been a homebrewer since his early twenties. However, the notion of turning his passion into a profession remained a distant dream until he encountered a program in Walla Walla.

Amidst his journey, Ben expressed that he had experienced many “aha” moments, each contributing to his profound appreciation for winemaking. One memorable instance involved tasting a Horsepower Syrah poured by the owner of Cayuse Vineyard. The unconventional aromas created a sensory experience that left an indelible mark. More recently, sharing upcoming wines from Burnt Bridge with friends reaffirmed his dedication, as their genuine approval resonated deeply, according to his about me section with Burnt Bridge.

The name of Burnt Bridge Cellars is a nod to the creek that meanders through the town’s core, encapsulating the deep connection the winery shares with its home. Established in 2010, Burnt Bridge Cellars began as a dream nurtured within the confines of a garage. Today, that dream has blossomed into a reality, with a commitment to a hands-on, meticulous winemaking process.

Steeped in the rich winemaking tradition of Eastern Washington, Burnt Bridge Cellars pays homage to the land it calls home. With an uncompromising focus on quality, every aspect of the winemaking journey is treated as an art form. Hand-picked grapes from carefully chosen vineyards set the foundation for each creation. The barrels, meticulously crafted from hand-selected oak, become vessels of transformation. From filling to corking and labeling, each bottle receives the personal touch of dedicated artisans.

Focusing on what the region excels in — exceptional Bordeaux and Rhone varietals — they carefully curate small lots that capture the essence of these vineyards. A minimalist approach to winemaking allows the unique beauty and character of each vineyard to shine through. The result is a collection of wines that reflect the diverse terroir and display a complexity that ignites the palate, according to Burnt Bridge’s website.
