A representative of K Coffee was not immediately available for commentary upon What Now Portland’s request.
While an official opening date and what K Coffee will have to offer has yet to be released, according to the permit filing, K Coffee will open under KBoba LLC.
According to Bizapedia, KBoba LLC was filed for January 4th, 2022. Both the registered agent for KBoba LLC and the permit filer for K Coffee is Kevin Kong Smith.
When digging a bit further, according to Washington Company Search and the company website, Kevin also is behind KSJ Cafe. KSJ Cafe LLC is marked as “administratively dissolved” on the Washington Company Search website.
The company website for KSJ Cafe states that “Executive Chef Kevin Kong Smith has 40 years of Asian cooking skills. He was raised in Laos and Northern Thailand. He specializes in food healing.” His educational background is marked by a B.S. in Math and Electrical Engineering from San Jose State University, complemented by an Executive MBA with a specialization in International Business and an MS in Political Economy from Canbourne University.
Chef Smith has further honed his skills through specialized training and certifications, including research on Natural Healing and Nutrition from Advocare International Inc. in Dallas, Texas. He has received specific training in diabetes food, dietary practices, and nutrition from Providence Hospital. Certificates in food safety, nutrition, diet, diabetes, and dementia have been earned from the Department of Human and Social Services in Washington State.
Additionally, Chef Smith holds a ServSafe Certification from the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation and has received training in food processing and sushi chef techniques from AFC Sushi Corp. in California. His business leadership experience includes roles as National Training Director, Executive Director, and Senior Director at Excel Communications, Inc. in Dallas, Texas, the website goes on to state.
